No Umno-DAP team-up to oust Ahmad Faizal from MB post in 2020, says Saarani

IPOH: Umno did not work together with DAP to topple then Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu in 2020, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic).

Saarani, the current mentri besar, said there were no discussions between Umno and DAP and there was no truth to the matter.

"There's no such thing.

"If we had worked together, we would have supported DAP's motion of no confidence against him (Ahmad Faizal).

"Instead, we moved a motion of confidence," he said in a press conference after launching the Perak Barisan Nasional Flood Volunteers Brigade at the state Umno Building here on Wednesday (Oct 19).

"If Umno is evil, we would have supported the motion (of no confidence) when we want to change the state speaker in June (2020)," he said.

Saarani was asked to comment on a remark by Ahmad Faizal, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president and state party chairman, in an interview with Astro Awani claiming that Umno and DAP had collaborated to oust him.

In December 2020, a confidence motion was filed by Umno's Pengkalan Baharu assemblyman Datuk Abdul Hashim Manaf, whereby Ahmad Faizal only got 10 votes in favour out of 59 Perak state seats.

The Chenderiang assemblyman then tendered his resignation.
