GE15: Dr Dzul to defend Kuala Selangor, says Amanah

Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad

PETALING JAYA: Former health minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad will be defending his Kuala Selangor Parliamentary seat, says Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The Amanah deputy president said that the party and the Pakatan Harapan coalition decided that they wanted Dzulkefly to defend the Kuala Selangor seat after talk that Umno is planning to field Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz for the seat.

“For us, GE15 is critical. We are confident that he is able to defend the seat based on the work he has done all along,” he added.

Salahuddin said in a press release on Thursday (Oct 20) that the people of the constituency are aware of Dzulkefly’s hard work in helping the people in the constituency and as a former Health Minister.

This comes after Dzulkefly had expressed his intention to make way for younger candidates in the 15th General Election(GE15).

Dzulkefly had said in June that he has no intention of contesting the coming GE15 as he wants to give younger leaders in Amanah a chance.

Meanwhile, Dzulkefly said when contacted that he was the first to put forth the suggestion to make way for the younger crop of Amanah leaders.

He added that after taking into account the opponent from Barisan Nasional, the leadership wanted him to defend the seat.

“As a party man, I have to be in the ring. We will see how it goes,” he said.
