Ismail Sabri: We’ll decide on cooperation after polls

KUALA LUMPUR: Any form of cooperation between Barisan Nasional and other parties, including PAS, will only be considered after the elections, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The caretaker Prime Minister said Barisan will need to wait for the outcome of the national polls before making any considerations.

“Let us cross the (election) bridge first, then we will decide,” he told reporters when met after officiating the Malay Contractors Convention 3.0 and the 43rd annual general meeting of the Malay Contractors Association Malaysia (PKMM), yesterday.

He said what was important was for Barisan to secure enough parliamentary seats to allow it to form the federal government.

“We must first secure our initial target to win. After that, with the outcome (of the elections), we will make decisions in the interest of the nation,” he said.

Ismail Sabri was commenting on PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan’s statement that his party was still open to collaborating with any political party in GE15, including realising the unification of the ummah.

On a separate matter, Ismail Sabri thanked a total of 152 Umno divisions that had filed motions to support him to continue as Prime Minister after the general election.

The Umno vice-president said there were no instructions, pressure or directives for any of the divisions to do so.

“Divisions are free to file any motions and I would like to thank them for doing so,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said the matter had already been announced by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the party’s extraordinary general meeting.

“The divisions are just reiterating the decision made by Umno supreme council and the president’s proposal. There is no pressure or instructions from anyone,” he said.
