PETALING JAYA: Gerakan will not contest in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu should its candidates under Perikatan Nasional be required to use the PAS logo.
Its deputy president Oh Tong Keong said the decision was based on the party’s principle not to use the logos of other parties during the 15th General Election.
He was reported as saying by a news portal that the candidates from his party only agreed to use the Perikatan logo.
“Gerakan reiterates its principle that our candidates in both state and parliamentary seats will use the Perikatan logo, and not PAS.
“If it is the final decision that has been made by Perikatan (on the use of the PAS logo), we would rather withdraw from contesting. There is no room for discussion,” he said.
On Sunday, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan was quoted as saying by Bernama that candidates – including others from Perikatan – contesting in the three PAS-governed states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah would use the PAS logo.
Meanwhile, Oh said Gerakan would adhere to any Perikatan decision should its request to use its logo in Penang be rejected.
“However, we are still hoping that the presidential council will consider the wishes of our grassroots to use our party logo in Penang,” Perikatan comprises Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PAS, Gerakan, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR).
