PRM jumps into the election fray, contesting five Parliamentary seats in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) is offering an alternative to people in Penang to choose a clean, intolerable to corruption and environmentally friendly government.

The party is contesting in five parliamentary seats and 15 states seats in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"The five parliamentary seats will be Bayan Baru, Jelutong, Bukit Bendera, Batu Kawan and Nibong Tebal, with the state seats to be decided later," said state PRM chairman Teh Yee Cheu during a press conference at PRM office in Pulau Tikus on Saturday (Oct 15).

"We are offering an alternative to the people to choose a government which do not have a stained track record, has the people's interest at heart and will ensure their jobs are taken care of, by reducing the dependence on foreign labour.

Teh, the former DAP assemblyman of Tanjung Bungah said he would be standing in Bukit Bendera, while state publicity head Lee Ah Liang in Batu Kawan and former Consumers Association of Penang officer Ravinder Singh in Bayan Baru with candidates for Jelutong and Nibong Tebal to be decided later.

On separate elections for parliament and state, Teh said it was a good option for the people as in the first round of voting they can choose the leaders and assess their performance before voting in the state.

"Even for politicians, it's good as they can gauge the voting pattern of the people and tweak their strategies during the state election, which is beneficial to all.

"The cost and hassle is a small price to pay compared to electing representatives who will serve the people effectively," he added.
