PUTRAJAYA: The special task force report on former attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas' book "My Story: Justice in the Wilderness" will be declassified, says caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
However, he did not indicate when this would happen.
"The report on the former attorney general's book as well as that on Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge were presented to the Cabinet on Sept 30 and Oct 7.
"Following the presentation of the report, the government has agreed to declassify the report to the public," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 13).
On Aug 29, then minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the task force had completed its investigation of claims against Thomas' book and the final report would be presented to the Cabinet soon.
He said the task force, chaired by Sarawak Legal Adviser and former state attorney general Datuk Seri Fong Joo Chung, had identified 19 important issues concerning allegations in the book that require the government's attention.
Published last year, the book was criticised by various quarters including the Attorney General's Chambers, lawyers, politicians and some of the public for allegedly containing elements of incitement, insults and defamation.
More than a hundred police reports were lodged against Thomas over his book.
The special task force also comprised former Sabah state secretary Datuk Hashim Paijan and former Women, Family and Community Development Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Junaidah Kamaruddin, who is also former director-general of the Legal Affairs Division.
Other members of the team are former judge and former senior federal counsel Datuk Jagjit Singh Bant Singh, lawyers Datuk Shaharudin Ali and Balaguru Karupiah, as well as representatives from the Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre and the Chief Government Security Office.
