KUALA LUMPUR: Former Sungai Benut Member of Parliament Tawfik IsmaiI will contest against Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Bagan Datuk, Perak.

Tawfik said he will be among the line up of Gerak Independent (GI) candidates.

"I will contest against him in Bagan Datuk or anywhere he runs," he said.

Tawfik said his campaign theme will be "Rakyat vs Rasuah".

"I will call on all Malaysians who hate corruption to see my fight as their fight.

"I am not splitting Pakatan Harapan votes but is instead taking my fight to the Malay heartland.

"God Willing, we, GI and Malaysia First will prevail," he said.

Tawfik, who is the son of the late former deputy prime minister Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, was an Umno MP in Johor.

He has been an active and outspoken political activist together with lawyer Siti Kasim.

Siti will be making her debut in Batu, Kuala Lumpur.

Asked if he was aware that his challenge against Ahmad Zahid will be an uphill task, he replied:

"I will fight Zahid wherever he runs to, because he embodies all that is rotten in the system."
