Selangor assembly will not be dissolved, says MB

SHAH ALAM: Selangor will not dissolve its legislative assembly in tandem with Parliament, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has confirmed.

The state’s Ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has also agreed that there is no need to dissolve the assembly.

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after an audience with the Sultan at Istana Bukit Kayangan here yesterday.

The Mentri Besar arrived at the palace at about 10am and departed at 12.45pm.

On his meeting with the Sultan, Amirudin said it was merely the weekly meeting where various state matters were discussed.

“We discussed many issues such as the state’s development as well as the management of its economy.

“Tuanku advised us to expedite and complete the necessary tasks before the dissolution (of the state legislative assembly),’’ said Amirudin, adding that other issues discussed with Sultan Sharafuddin included the upcoming state budget, the First Selangor Plan and the expected floods.

He also conveyed to the Ruler that Pakatan Harapan did not want to dissolve the state assembly now.

He said the state’s decision not to dissolve the assembly was conveyed to the Sultan some time ago and he (Amirudin) had also given a suggestion on when it would likely be done.

“Tuanku has asked us to discuss the matter with the relevant parties so that the state elections, when carried out, will be done efficiently,’’ he said.

He also said the state budget, scheduled to be tabled on Oct 28, might have to be postponed due to the impending general election.

“We are waiting for the Election Commission to fix the general election date,’’ he said.

According to Amirudin, the budget may have to be postponed as state government officers would be given various duties to be carried out during the parliamentary polls and this may affect the efficiency of the budget preparation and presentation.

On another matter, Amirudin, who is Selangor PKR chief, said the party would retain most of its MPs in the upcoming elections.

“We will be having new candidates in Gombak and Ampang while looking at some new and young candidates to strengthen the party,” he added.
