Covid-19 Watch: 1,794 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 60.2pc

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,794 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (Oct 6), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,850,108 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 1,789 of Thursday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while five imported infections were logged.

There were 1,227 recoveries on Thursday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,790,116 since the pandemic began.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 60.2%, with six states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 79.5%, followed by Johor (75%), Kelantan (69%), Selangor (68%), Kuala Lumpur (65.2%) and Melaka (60.3%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that four Covid-19 deaths were reported on Thursday.

This brings the death toll to 36,391.
