Cops cripple house break-in gang, arrest four in Penang

KEPALA BATAS: Police have crippled a house break-in gang here with the arrest of four suspects, including a teenager on Wednesday (Sept 28).

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Radzi Ahmad said the suspects, aged 16 to 37, known as Geng Mawar, were detained during crime prevention ops at several areas in the district and Sungai Petani at about 3.40am.

"From information that we received from the public, we have arrested three suspects at several areas in the district," he said during a press conference at North Seberang Prai police headquarters.

ACP Mohd Radzi said following the interrogation of the three suspects, police raided a house in Sungai Petani and arrested a woman.

He said the suspects were believed to have been involved in house break-in activities at Bertam Perdana and Taman Perda Indah in the district.

ACP Mohd Radzi said police believe they have solved 16 break-in cases in North Seberang Prai following the arrests.

He said during the operation, police discovered stolen items such as branded bags, shoes, handphones, various brands of laptops, foreign currencies, jewellery, tools, and equipment that were used for house break-in activities.

"We also seized a car and a sum of money during the operation," he said.

He said the suspects, who have prior criminal and drug records, have been remanded for seven days beginning Sept 28 until Oct 5.

He said police are still processing the extension of remand of the suspects at Butterworth Court.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house break-in.
