Pakatan yet to decide when to dissolve state assemblies, says Aminuddin

SEREMBAN: The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has yet to decide if the states it rules will dissolve their respective legislative assemblies in the event Parliament is dissolved, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic).

The PKR vice-chairman said respective state leaders will first brief the presidential council on the situation in their states and the final decision will be made by the central leadership.

"If the presidential council decides that we should also simultaneously dissolve our respective assemblies, we will do so.

"If it decides against it, then we wait till next year," he told reporters.

He said Pakatan's decision would also be based on that taken by other states.

Earlier on Tuesday (Oct 4), PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party was also opposed to snap polls.

He said dissolving Parliament now was not proper given the country's economic situation and expected floods later this year.

Aminuddin, who is Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar, said he was also constantly in touch with his counterparts from Pakatan-ruled states.

He said the main concern raised by them was the monsoon season and the possibility of their states being hit by floods.

"We still have like eight months to go before the election must be called.

"If Parliament is dissolved and we are hit by floods, then we will have to give priority to helping the people.

"At the same time, we will also have to make sure they will go out to vote despite the trying circumstances," he said.

Aminuddin said some areas in the state were already hit by flash floods and that more rain is expected.

"We should take that as a warning and realise that it is not a good time to call for polls," he said.

He said Pakatan allies would also start discussing their potential candidates for GE15 starting next week.

Separately, Aminuddin admitted that there was a mistake in leaving out the names of four assemblymen from the new state PKR liaison committee line-up announced last Thursday.

He admitted that as assemblymen or state excos, they were automatically members of the committee.

In the first list, all four who held senior positions in the state line-up previously were not mentioned.

The four were state legislative assembly Deputy Speaker and Sri Tanjung assemblyman Datuk M. Ravi, state exco members Datuk Dr Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek (Ampangan) and Mohamad Nazaruddin Sabtu (Pilah) and Datuk Michael Yek (Chuah).

However, later in the day, Aminuddin released another list which saw the four named as appointed committee members.

Asked about a statement by Parti Bangsa Malaysia president-designate Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin that two assemblymen from Negri Sembilan are likely to join the party, Aminuddin said he had no knowledge of it.

"I don't know anything about it. It may only be a provocation," he added.
