PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's achievement in the aviation industry has attracted the interest of Caribbean countries, which are eager to learn through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister said that MTCP would assist the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) member states through technical cooperation.
Dr Wee had a bilateral meeting with the Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System's (CASSOS) representative Lt Col (Rtd) Egbert Field in Montreal, Canada on Monday (Oct 3).
CASSOS is represented by Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, Suriname as well as Trinidad and Tobago.
"Lt Col Field is very impressed with Malaysia's achievements in the aviation industry and eager to take full advantage of the training opportunities we offer through MTCP.
"Having trained 400 technical personnel from different countries, MTCP will continue to help member states through technical cooperation," he said in a Facebook post Tuesday (Oct 4).
Dr Wee also said that Malaysia is glad to share its experience and knowledge in relation to the country' reinstatement to Category 1 of the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) rating.
Dr Wee had earlier announced that Malaysia regained its Category 1 IASA safety rating after three years of being in Category 2.
Last week, the Malaysian delegate had bilateral meetings with several African countries such as Ghana and Senegal.
Dr Wee reiterated Malaysia's commitment to further facilitate and provide aviation training to other countries under MTCP.
