TO further promote financial management knowledge and to encourage the practice of financial digitalisation among students from higher learning institutions, Agrobank launched its flagship Cashless Cafe and Cooperative programme at Kolej Tingkatan Enam Pontian, Johor Baru.
Theprogramme, developed in collaboration with the Kolej Tingkatan Enam Pontian Cooperative and supported by the Pontian District Education Office, serves as an introduction to easy financial digitisation management for the college students.
Agrobank president and chief executive officer Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin said the programme was developed for students with the objective of inculcating the right financial management culture.
“This is also to ensure the younger generation is equipped with sufficient knowledge and can be smart in managing their finances as well as being able to conduct digital transactions on their own.
“The students and employees of the college now only need to scan the QR code using their smartphone when making payments at the canteen or cooperative.
“This concept does not only make purchasing over the counter easier but students and the canteen operator do not need to prepare any cash.
“For traders or cafe operators, earnings from daily business transactions will be deposited directly into their account and they can check their account via online. This also helps them monitor their financial records and have better organised account management,” he said.
The Cashless Cafe and Cooperative Programme at Kolej Tingkatan Enam Pontian was officiated by Agrobank channel and distribution head Syed Hairul Anuar Syed Fadzil.
Meanwhile, Agrobank also handed over a zakat contribution of RM8,000 for the refurbishment of facilities at the college’s surau.
Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah added that the Kolej Tingkatan Enam Pontian Cooperative is appointed as Agrobank’s agent, or known as AgroAgent, which functions as a mini bank at the college where students and employees can walk-in directly for banking transaction services such as cash depositing and withdrawals from the college cooperative itself.
“The students and college residents now do not need to go to the bank as they can pay their utility bill payment and top up prepaid cards through Agroagent.
“Parents are able to control and monitor their children's accounts and expenses where they can transfer money for their children's weekly or monthly expenses through our online transactions or cash deposits,” he said.
A total of 370 students including 34 college employees opened a Basic Savings Account-i (Agro BSA-i) savings account with a deposit amount as low as RM30 (RM20 as minimum deposit and RM10 as registration fee for the Agro Visa Debit-i card).
Kolej Tingkatan Enam Pontian is the first educational institution appointed by Agrobank for the implementation of the Cashless Cafe and Cooperative Programme in the Pontian District particularly. It is also the first Agrobank Agent to be appointed among educational institutions, where previously only business premises and government organisations were involved.
