Rafizi sets sight on contesting in Pandan

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has declared his intention to stand again in Pandan in the 15th General Election (GE15).

He held the parliamentary seat in Kuala Lumpur from 2013 to 2018 in his electoral debut.

But he did not defend the seat in GE14 after he was sentenced to 30 months’ jail by a Sessions Court for exposing bank account details related to National Feedlot Corporation and its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail in February 2018.

Following an appeal, he was acquitted by the High Court in November 2019.

Rafizi, 45, said he had made his intention clear to the party leadership, which is in the midst of finalising the candidates’ list for GE15.

“I will be able to campaign more effectively at the national level for PKR candidates if I stand in Pandan, where we are established with good support,” he told reporters in Penang yesterday.

Pandan is presently held by PKR adviser Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was deputy prime minister under the then Pakatan Harapan government.
