Son of former religious affairs minister Dr Zulkifli succumbs to cancer

PETALING JAYA: The second son of former minister in the prime minister's department (religious affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri has succumbed to cancer at their home in Bandar Baru Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

Hammad Zulkifli, 22, passed away at 5.22am Sunday (Oct 2).

Dr Zulkifli's spokesman Mohamad Razif Mohamad Fuad said Hammad had been battling cancer for the past three years.

"He passed away a few days before his birthday which is on Oct 10.

"His health has been deteriorating since the beginning of this year and he has been in critical condition for the past few days.

"However, despite the challenges, the deceased continued to commit to obligatory prayers five times a day with his family while bedridden," he said.

Mohamad Razif said Hammad was buried at Ar Raudhah Islamic Cemetery in Kota Seriemas, Nilai after funeral prayers at 9.45am at the Islamic Centre of the University of Islamic Sciences Malaysia (USIM), Nilai.

News of his passing was also shared by Dr Zulkifli on Facebook.

"With calmness and patience, I inform you of the passing of my son Hammad bin Zulkifli at 5.22am.

"Oh my son Hammad, tears flowed profusely as I watched Hammad take his last breath by Abah's side.

"Abah and his family are honestly very sad about this separation.

"Many thanks to everyone who helped us with Hammad from the beginning, all the way to the grave.

"On behalf of the family, I apologise if there was any mistake on the part of my son, Hammad," he said.
