Malaysians can travel visa-free to Taiwan beginning Sept 29

PETALING JAYA: Starting Thursday (Sept 29), Malaysians will not need a visa nor will they have to take a Covid-19 PCR test to travel to Taiwan.

The latest exemptions, announced by Taiwan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, include visitors from Chile, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

“Malaysians are eligible for the visa exemption programme, with a duration of stay of up to 30 days,” the ministry said on Wednesday (Sept 28).

On Sept 5, Taiwan announced the reinstatement of visa-free entry for nationals of the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, certain European countries, and its diplomatic allies beginning Sept 12.

Malaysia, however, was placed on the “temporarily suspended” list for visa-free entry, together with Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Brunei, the Philippines, Russia, Chile, Israel, Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

Under the visa exemption, Malaysian passport holders are permitted stays of up to 30 days in Taiwan.

Malaysians only need a passport with at least six months’ validity upon entry, a return ticket and no criminal record to visit Taiwan.
