Kit Siang stresses he has retired, won't be contesting in GE15

PETALING JAYA: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang maintains that he has retired from politics and will not be contesting the Bakri parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Johor Umno chief Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad had claimed recently that the 81-year-old Lim was making a U-turn after announcing his retirement from active politics in March and would compete in GE15.

“For Hasni’s information, I have retired from competitive politics and I am not aware of any recent DAP meeting allegedly to discuss my candidature for Bakri parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election,” Lim said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 21).

On Monday (Sept 19), Hasni said he received information that a recent DAP meeting had decided that Lim would stand in Bakri.

The seat was won by Yeo Bee Yin in GE14 after she defeated Barisan Nasional’s Koh Choon Chai and Md Zahrul Salleh of PAS.

Lim, a two-term Iskandar Puteri MP, announced at the 17th DAP National Congress on March 20 that he was retiring and would not be contesting in GE15.
