Comply with mandatory requirement of wearing face masks, Dr Wee tells public transport users

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry wants public transport users and staff to continue to comply with the requirement of wearing face masks.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said that wearing a face mask is still mandatory when using public transport.

"It is still mandatory in buses, rails, taxis, including e-hailing services, aeroplanes, employee and school buses and vans throughout the country.

"Yesterday, Health Minister YB Khairy Jamaluddin announced that wearing face masks indoors is no longer mandatory with immediate effect," he said in a post on Facebook on Thursday (Sept 8).

He said he hoped that this standard operating procedure (SOP) is complied with.

"Any changes regarding the SOP for the use of face masks for public transport services, terminals and stations will be notified later, after taking into account the current evaluation of the Health Ministry,” he said.
