Multiculturalism can flourish with committed effort from Malaysians, says Melaka councillor

MELAKA: A committed effort is needed from all stakeholders to allow multiculturalism to flourish, says a local councillor.

Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) councillor Kon Qi Yao said everyone – from the people to government officials – have a responsibility to spread the muhibbah spirit.

"By now, we should understand each other better and work together through kindness, generosity and oneness," he said when addressing the opening of a multi-racial lantern festival at Bertam Malim here together with the chairman of the residents' association Mohd Sharif Ahmad on Saturday (Sept 3).

Kon said the multi-racial festival was merrier with the participation of various races in the lantern procession.

"The festival was livened up by the involvement of the residents.

"The crowd was enthralled with various cultural performances and competitions at the event," he added.
