KUALA LUMPUR: A labourer allegedly molested a 12-year-old girl while his wife threatened to kill her.
As a result, the victim suffered mental and physical anguish for about a month before her father finally called the police on Friday (Sept 2).
“The complainant told us his daughter had been physically molested by a man from Myanmar who is known to them," Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 4).
He added that the suspect was said to have also spied on the girl several times while she was bathing.
The complainant and his family live in a shophouse with others and the bathroom is shared by all the tenants, ACP Mohamad Farouk said.
“The complainant's wife received threats from the suspect’s wife. She was told that her daughter would be killed because the girl had been disturbing the suspect,” he added.
According to ACP Mohamad Farouk, a police team acting on the complaint raided the shophouse in Taman Putra here and arrested a married couple.
“The 35-year-old man is a UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) card holder, while the woman is a 54-year-old Indonesian who works as a shop assistant. They have both been remanded until Tuesday (Sept 6),” he added.
The case is being investigated for molestation and criminal intimidation by using death threats.
