Incentives galore for civil servants

PUTRAJAYA: A slew of incentives awaits Malaysia’s 1.62 million civil servants from next year.

The most welcomed announcement is the additional RM100 in the annual increment of public officers in Grade 11 until Grade 56 to be paid from January 2023 as well as the RM700 in special financial aid to those in Grade 56 and below.

Ismail Sabri said the additional RM100 for the annual increment would benefit 1.28mil officers and cost the government RM1.5bil.

The payment will be made in January, which will also see government pensioners and non-pensionable veterans getting RM350.

Ismail Sabri also announced that the maximum number of annual leave days that could be accumulated for cash awards in lieu of leave would be increased from 160 to 180.

The special leave days for civil servants in education services will be raised to 15 days a year for those who have served more than 10 years, benefiting about 500,000 teachers.

Ismal Sabri said this would allow them to get time off to attend to important and emergency matters.

“For the purpose of unrecorded leave, the definition of family members has been extended to the civil servant’s siblings and grandparents for deaths.

“Improvements will also be made to benefit those who have reached their maximum salary.

“The Public Service Department will issue a circular on the details,” he said.

The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to the civil servants who had worked hard to ensure that the government machinery remained effective and that policies are executed to benefit the people.

“I urge you to continue to give your best to the people.

“God willing, if productivity can be increased and the economy becomes stronger, the government will have a bigger capability to improve facilities - not only for the public but also for civil servants,” he added.

Among those present at the gathering were ministers, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali and some 4,000 civil servants.
