Cuepacs: Raise civil servants’ minimum salary to RM1,800

PUTRAJAYA: Cuepacs wants the government to give serious consideration to its proposal for the minimum salary of civil servants to be fixed at RM1,800 a month.

Its president Datuk Adnan Mat said while Cuepacs welcomed the government’s commitment to expedite a study on the public service salary scale, this proposal must be looked into.

“The government should give our proposal for public servants’ minimum salary at RM1,800 serious consideration,” he said.

Cuepacs, said Adnan, welcomed the government’s commitment to study the civil service salary scale.

He added that this was timely as the current scale been in place since 2002.

“It is no longer appropriate in the current economic environment, given that the cost of living has increased since then,” he said.

On the incentives announced yesterday, Adnan said these would provide some relief to civil servants and that these came despite the “government’s pockets being limited”.

“While we understand the constraints, the civil servants are facing difficulties too. What is announced by the Prime Minister provides some relief to us.

“We hope to continue discussions to get better remunerations when the financial situation allows for it,” he added.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said the incentives would provide a boost for public officers to provide better services to the people.

On the salary scale, he said the Public Service Department had been asked to look into it.
