KUALA LUMPUR: After spending two nights in prison, Datuk Seri Najib Razak got to see his family again when they came to show their support at the Kuala Lumpur High Court here.
The former prime minister appeared in public for the first time since being sent to Kajang Prison on Tuesday after failing in the final appeal in his RM42mil SRC International trial.
His wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor was there, wearing a pink and green floral baju kurung with matching pink shoes and mask.
“Datuk Seri is good, Alhamdullilah,” Rosmah said of her husband.
She also thanked those who had been showing up in court to show their support.
Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib was also there, dressed in a pale pink floral baju kurung, though she chose to stay mum.
In an Instagram post late on Wednesday, Nooryana had said that Najib’s legal team managed to meet him in Kajang Prison.
“Alhamdulillah, Daddy is in good health and his fighting spirit is still strong,” she said.
She added that Najib was adapting to the new routine in prison, a far cry from the usually packed schedule of “Bossku”.
Nooryana also thanked the officials and guards at Kajang Prison for taking good care of Najib.
Also present at the court were a handful of Najib supporters.
The group made a beeline for the court’s main gate as Najib left to return to Kajang Prison and started yelling “Bossku”, “lawan tetap lawan” (keep on fighting) and “Allahuakbar”.
Najib, who got into the black SUV which had brought him to court in the morning, lowered a window slightly to wave to the 20-odd supporters at about 4.20pm.
Meanwhile, Najib’s special officer Ahmad Lutfi Azhar said there was no plan so far to move Najib from Kajang Prison.
“No, for now he will be in Kajang,” he said, when asked about reports that Najib would be moved to Sungai Buloh Prison.
Lutfi said only Najib’s lawyer had met him in prison.
On Tuesday, Najib became the first prime minister to be sent to prison after the Federal Court upheld the High Court’s conviction and sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
He was found guilty on seven charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of position.
Najib was sentenced to 12 years in jail and a fine of RM210mil by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on July 28, 2020.
