Five escape high-speed ambulance-car crash unhurt

MELAKA: Five people escaped unhurt after a high-speed collision between an ambulance and a car at Taman Seri Bertam here on Thursday (Aug 25).

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the ambulance was ferrying a 71-year-old female patient when the accident occurred at a traffic light junction at 10am.

"Besides the driver and patient, there were two medical officers in the ambulance," he said on Thursday (Aug 25).

ACP Christopher said all those in the ambulance, as well as the 29-year-old woman driving the car, were unhurt.

He said the ambulance was rushing the elderly patient to Hospital Melaka from a Masjid Tanah clinic when the car hit it at the junction.

The ambulance had run the red light at the junction before the collision, he added.

The ambulance was dented on the driver's side while the car bumper and bonnet were damaged.

ACP Christopher said the ambulance driver lodged a police report at about 1pm after sending the patient to hospital.

He added that the accident is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
