HANOI: Five workers were killed and two others injured in a workplace accident in Vietnam's central province of Thanh Hoa on Saturday (July 18), the Vietnam News Agency reported on Sunday.

The accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. local time at a pig farm in Thach Quang commune, according to the report.

Preliminary findings showed that a worker repairing an electrical system near a manure filtration pit suffered an electric shock and fell into the pit.

Several co-workers entered the pit in an attempt to rescue him but subsequently showed signs of suffocation.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. - Xinhua
