Firemen rescue lorry driver trapped under vehicle

JOHOR BARU: A male lorry driver with an integrated waste management and public cleansing service provider suffered minor injuries after he was trapped under the lorry.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operation centre (PGO) said it received an emergency call on the incident on Wednesday (Aug 24) at 1.43pm.

Tebrau fire station chief Shamsul Khomari Bakar said six firemen were deployed to the scene at Jalan Sentosa, Kampung Melayu Majidee near here.

“A Fire Rapid Tender vehicle was used in the operation led by senior officer II Mohd Shahril Sapar,’’ he said in a statement.

Shamsul said upon arrival of the firemen at the scene, there had been an incident involving a three-ton lorry belonging to the service provider.

He added at the time of the incident, the workers were cleaning the road when the lorry had moved on its own.

“The lorry hit the driver causing the victim to be trapped under the vehicle,’’ said Shamsul.

He said firemen used three airbags and a spreader to rescue the 54-year-old victim.

Shamsul said the victim was handed over to the paramedic team from the Health Ministry to be taken to hospital.

The operation ended at 2.25pm.
