SEREMBAN: Klawang assemblyman Datuk Bakri Sawir has denied sending out texts on a messaging app asking for small loans from friends.

The Negri Sembilan agriculture and agro-based industries committee chairman had also lodged a police report on Sunday (July 31) upon realising that his Telegram account had been hacked.

"On Friday (July 29), I received a text message on WhatsApp from a friend who told me that my Telegram account had been hacked.

"This friend told me that the hacker had asked to borrow RM2,000 from him and to bank the money into an account belonging to a company," he told reporters here on Wednesday (Aug 3).

Bakri said he also learnt that two of his friends lost a total of RM5,000 after being scammed.

He said since Friday, he had received calls and texts from friends wondering if he had really asked for loans of between RM2,000 and RM3,000 after getting messages from his Telegram account.

Bakri urged anyone who gets such a message appearing to be from him to ignore it.

When contacted, Jelebu district police chief Deputy Supt Maslan Udin confirmed receiving Bakri’s report.
