PUTRAJAYA: An independent committee will be formed to review the “Generational Endgame” (GEG) Bill and its effectiveness, says Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
During a special interview at the Health Ministry on Friday (July 29), he said although this was not stated in the Bill, the newly-formed committee would also have to present its findings to Parliament.

“I have also assured the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) that a mandatory review would be carried out 10 years after the GEG to see which part of the Act needs amendment,” he said, adding that he had abided by most of the suggestions from the PSC.
He added that he had also written a formal letter to PSC chairman Dr Kelvin Yii on Thursday (July 28) on the independent committee and mandatory review.

“I have also assured him that I would mention this during the (second) reading in Parliament to ensure it is recorded in the Hansard,” he said, adding that this would provide a safeguard towards the relevant steps.
The second reading of the Tobacco and Smoking Control Bill 2022 is expected to be tabled in Parliament on Monday (Aug 1).
