PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 4,587 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday (July 20), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,640,235 cases since the pandemic began, says the Health Ministry.
The ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 4,576 of Thursday's new infections were local transmissions while there were 11 imported infections.
The country also recorded 2,652 recoveries from Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the number of active infections in the country to 47,409.
Of Thursday's active Covid-19 cases, 96.7%, or 45,856 individuals, are observing home quarantine and 39 people are being treated at quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.
A total of 1,451 patients, or 3.1% of Thursday's active cases, have been hospitalised with 63 individuals (0.2%) being treated at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country.
A total of 31 of Thursday's ICU admissions are unventilated while 32 people require ventilator support.
The CovidNow portal also reported that Malaysia's ICU utilisation rate stands at 62.8%, with 15.6% being used for Covid-19 patients.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were 10 deaths due to Covid-19 on Thursday, including five brought-in-dead cases.
This brings the total number of fatalities in the country since the pandemic began to 35,888.
Four deaths due to Covid-19 were reported in Selangor on Thursday while there was one death each reported in Terengganu, Sarawak, Penang, Perak, Pahang and Melaka.
