KUALA LUMPUR: The All-new Perodua Alza received over 30,000 bookings since orders were opened on June 23, the highest-ever number of bookings for a Perodua car in the first month of bookings.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who launched the latest model here on Wednesday (July 20) said the new Perodua Alza was an achievement for the local car maker.

"The impact of the country's automotive industry development can be seen through the generated economic activities such as creating job opportunities, technical skills upgrading, technology transfer and reducing dependency from foreign companies.

"In addition, the national automotive companies are also responsible for developing the industry through investment and at the same time strive to enhance the capabilities of local companies from aspects of quality, technology and productivity.

"In fact, Perodua has also proved its continued commitment to the local automotive sector with purchases of automotive components of RM7bil on average annually," he said in his speech.

Meanwhile, Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said their achievement was attributed to customers wanting to take advantage of the sales tax exemption which expired on June 30.

He said over the 200,000 bookings that they currently have, nearly 15% is for the full model change of Alza.

Zainal added that nearly 4,000 customers converted their Perodua Alza orders to the new version even before bookings were opened.

"Beginning today, some of our customers will be receiving their All-New Perodua Alza from 195 authorised sales showrooms across the country.

"We also assure our customers who booked their All-New Alza on or before June 30 will receive their vehicles before the March 31, 2023 deadline," he said.

On the development of the All-New Perodua Alza, Zainal said they have invested RM770mil to develop the model since April 2018.

The All-New Perodua Alza is officially priced at RM62,500 for the X variant, RM68,000 for the H variant and RM75,500 for the AV variant ( prices in West Malaysia, with sales Tax and without insurance).

For those who booked their All-New Alza on or before June 30 and receive the unit on or before March 31, 2023 will enjoy lower prices as they qualify for the exemption.

The All-New Perodua Alza was jointly developed under the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), where Malaysian designers and engineers worked with their counterpart within Daihatsu Motor Co. of Japan.

It is the second model developed under DGNA after Perodua Ativa, which was introduced in March 2021.

Present at the launch were Daihatsu Motor Co President Soichiro Okudaira and Perodua chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin.
