KUALA LUMPUR: For every new home built for veterans under the Defence Ministry Housing Blueprint 3.0, four current ones will be upgraded, says the Prime Minister.
At the blueprint's official launch on Wednesday (July 13) at Wisma Perwira here, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was one of the goals of the Armed Forces Housing Initiative, which falls under the housing blueprint.
“Under the initiative, as many as 1,700 units will be built for Armed Forces veterans all over the country.
"At the same time more houses will be available with the target of four existing units upgraded for each new one built," he said.
A total of 4,200 housing units were completed and handed over under the two previous blueprints.
An additional 552 Malaysian Family Armed Forces Homes (RKMAT) are due to be completed by the end of the year.
“To ensure continuity from the first and second blueprints, the third will focus on fulfilling the required 12,733 RKMAT units all over the country in five phases, from 2023 until 2030.
“Under this programme, the target is for 80% of the 7,292 RKMAT units already available to be upgraded by combining two units into one. At the same time, old furniture will be replaced with new,” he added.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the blueprint would ensure that Armed Forces housing issues would be resolved in a more holistic and comprehensive manner.
“It is my wish that all parties will move in the same direction, which is to ensure that all aspects of housing for members of the Armed Forces and veterans is prioritised,” he said.
