Covid-19: Another 2,796 new cases, one death recorded on June 23


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,796 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (June 23), bringing the cumulative number of cases to 4,549,847.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that of this number, 2,587 cases were local transmissions and 209 were imported cases.

There were also 2,503 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,486,787 since the pandemic began.

There are currently 27,318 active cases in the country, with 26,253 (96.1%) individuals observing home quarantine, 18 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres and 1,009 (3.7%) in hospitals receiving treatment.

Another 38 patients are warded in intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country, with 21 requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide was at 62.3%, with 10 states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Selangor had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 87.9%, followed by Kedah (80.8%), Klang Valley (80.2%), Kelantan (70.3%), Putrajaya (70%), Kuala Lumpur (69.9%), Johor (69.6%), Negri Sembilan (65.3%), Terengganu (61.9%) and Melaka (61%).

One fatality due to Covid-19 was reported, taking the death toll to 35,742.
