Illegal sales of subsidised diesel under probe

KOTA KINABALU: Petrol stations are being investigated to determine if they are involved in the illegal sales of subsidised diesel in Keningau district, it has been revealed.

This follows a raid on a garage on Monday, where some 8,300 litres of diesel were found stored in a tanker and another vehicle believed to be used for the illegal sales.

Enforcement officials from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry in Sabah conducted the raid at around 9.30pm.

Its Sabah chief Georgie Abas said the total value of diesel seized was about RM98,345.

“A suspect has been detained,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that the premises that was raided did not have any licence to store, keep or distribute subsidised diesel.

“We will also investigate whether other petrol stations are involved in this offence,” he said.

Georgie said the case was being investigated under various laws including the Supply Control Act 1961 (Act 122) for possession of controlled goods for the purpose of committing an offence.

Under Act 122, any individual found guilty could be fined up to RM1mil and up to RM3mil for subsequent offences, or jailed up to three years, or both.
