AFTER turning 35 on Monday, Hong Kong singer and actress Joyce Cheng will now legitimately inherit the HK$60mil (RM33.4mil) fortune left by her late mother, the renowned comedian-emcee Lydia Shum.
Sin Chew Daily reported that based on Shum’s will, Joyce would only get the money at that age.
The inheritance comprises properties and other assets which could have appreciated over the years and be worth more than RM55.7mil now.
Shum died of cancer in 2008 at the age of 60. Joyce is her only child from her marriage with actor-singer Adam Cheng.
Joyce posted a photo of herself in tears on her Facebook page on her birthday.
“Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Today is my birthday. I wish myself and those whom I love good health and happiness every day,” she said.
Before Joyce turned 35, she could only withdraw HK$20,000 (RM11,000) every month from the trust.
At one point of her life, there was only HK$26 (RM14) in her bank account but she persevered and rarely sought financial help from her father.
> A motorcyclist in China staged a road accident before gloating about how easy it was for him to get off without paying compensation to his “victim”, China Press reported.
Riding his machine around Guangzhou last Sunday, the man rammed into a yellow Lamborghini Urus, causing a dent to the front of the luxury vehicle.
The man then knelt before the vehicle owner and pleaded to him to let him go without paying for the damage.
The driver agreed to repair his car at his own expenses.
However, the motorcyclist later said on WeChat: “I rammed into a Lamborghini this time. I’ll try to do the same to a Porsche next time.”
