BN must be prepared for new approaches, including coalition agreements, says Azalina

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional must be prepared to take new approaches including pre- and post-election coalition agreements ahead of the coming general election, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The Pengerang MP said although her proposal might be considered sensitive, she said that it was important to make such an agreement even with parties that are commonly viewed as "enemies" or non-partners.

"We must be ready to have an open mind to new approaches, which is to have either pre- or post-election coalition agreement.

"If we want to win, we need to be ready to negotiate with parties that share a common ground," she said at the Barisan Convention at the World Trade Centre on Wednesday (June 1).

"Before we enter the general election, we make preparations and agree on several matters.

Once we win, we discuss again," said the outspoken lawmaker.

"If we go to the election with the thinking, if we are Barisan, we will only stick to Barisan only, and we are not flexible, I don't think we will be able to administer effectively like what happened before," she said.

She also noted that the voter trend has changed especially with the emergence of Undi18 voters, automatic voters, frustrated voters, loyal voters as well as confused voters.
