Chong to sniff out truth behind beauty centre after patient alleges botched nose job

KUALA LUMPUR: Failed cosmetic surgery by a purported "surgeon" left a patient with a crooked nose, according to MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

The victim, a transgender who identified herself to the media as Loo, said the operation was conducted on March 27.

"After seeing an advert on Facebook, I went to a beauty centre in Kepong to do a cartilage graft rhinoplasty. I paid RM6,666 on March 22 and a further RM6,800 after the surgery on March 27.

"After 16 days, my nose was slanted to the right but the people at the centre insisted that nothing was wrong.

"I demanded that the surgeon fix the damage but he refused to do so, and only offered to remove the graft and return half the money," she said.

After a check-up at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Loo was told of others who had similar experiences.

Chong, who highlighted the incident at a press conference in Wisma MCA here on Tuesday (May 31), said legal aid was being considered and a report would be filed against the clinic with the Malaysian Medical Association.

Chong said the clinic was operated by a foreigner, who was also Loo's surgeon, and expressed doubt that it was authorised to perform such procedures.

"I will contact the clinic after this press conference. So far I've had five cases of botched cosmetic surgeries including this one.

"I advised people to do due diligence and only consult authorised clinics, doctors and hospitals. Sometimes they are also cheaper than these so-called doctors you find on Facebook," he said.
