Covid-19: Daily cases dip below 2,500 with 2,373 new cases detected


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,373 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (May 14), bringing the total number of cases in the country since the pandemic began to 4,475,873.

The Health Ministry CovidNow portal reported that on Saturday, there were only three imported infections, while the remaining 2,379 cases were local transmissions.

The portal also reported that there were 1,340 recoveries on Saturday, bringing the total number to 4,410,399 since the pandemic began.

It also said there were 29,762 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia as at Satudray, with 28,425 individuals, or 95.5% of the active cases, observing home quarantine.

A total of 1,261 Covid-19 patients have been hospitalised and 47 are being treated at intensive care units (ICUs) throughout the country.

Meanwhile, the ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were five deaths due to Covid-19 on Saturday, including one classified as brought in dead.

This brings the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Malaysia to 35,612 since the pandemic began.
