Ex-youth council members looking to help B40 community

FORMER members of the Malaysian Indian Youth Council held their first union meeting for its Johor chapter recently, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The meeting, held in Ulu Tiram, Johor Baru, was attended by members from the council who had passed the youth age limit but still wished to contribute to society.

The union’s national chairman, identified only as Chandralingam, said the latest chapter in Johor would enable the members there to expand and coordinate their activities to help the community.

Johor chapter president P. Murugan said although activities were hampered by the pandemic, members continued to serve the community, especially those from the B40 group, who suffered the most during this period.

> Makkal Osai reported that a 21-year-old woman in Pakistan was the latest to be killed for dishonouring her family after she refused to give up her modelling and dancing career.

The woman, identified only as Chitra, worked in an apparel company in the Punjab state, modelling clothes in addition to a job as a stage dancer.

Her family had been asking her to give up both jobs because they were against their family’s values. She vehemently refused.

On Chitra’s recent trip home, a relative had forwarded a video of her dancing to her brother Hamzah. This sparked another argument.

Hamzah then beat his sister before shooting her dead. He has since been arrested by the police.
