Melaka restaurant raided for selling food to those skipping fasting

MELAKA: Enforcement officers from the Melaka Religious Department (JAIM) raided a restaurant at Taman Peringgit here for supplying meals to those "ponteng puasa" (skipping the fast) during Ramadan.

JAIM director Datuk Che Sukri Che Mat said the raid was initiated after his team observed the restaurant for a few days.

"The restaurant supplied food to individuals as early as 8am and two restaurant helpers were assigned to deliver the food packets to their clients," he said on Friday (April 8).

Che Sukri said the food packets were delivered to the individuals waiting inside their cars in a bid to evade the authorities.

He said the restaurant was among the 80 hotspots in the state identified as the places frequented by those skipping the fast.

Che Sukri said notices were issued to seven workers and the owner of the restaurant - aged between 24 and 63 - under Section 49 of the Melaka Syariah Criminal Law Enactment 1991.
