Four boats damaged in fire at Johor fishing jetty

JOHOR BARU: A major fire ripped through a fishing jetty in Sg Endau, damaging at least four deep-sea fishing boats anchored there.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Alias Hussin said they dispatched at least 32 personnel soon after getting the emergency call shortly after midnight on Saturday (April 2).

“We managed to secure 15 other boats anchored at the jetty. Four boats sustained 70% to 85% damage,” he said, adding that there were no injuries in the fire.

He added that the team took more than 10 hours to complete the operation.

“It took a long time to bring the fire under control as the boats were laden with more than 20,000 litres of diesel and engine oil. Luckily there were no explosions,” he said, adding that the operation ended at about 10.42am on Sunday (April 3).

The firemen involved were from several fire stations including Endau, Mersing and Kuala Rompin.
