World’s press demands Russia and Ukraine protect journalists covering conflict

Ukrainian Military Forces servicemen block a road in the so-called government quarter in Kiev on Feb 24 as Russia's ground forces invaded Ukraine from several directions on Thursday (Feb 24) encircling the country within hours of Russian President announcing his decision to launch an assault.

PETALING JAYA: As the Russian military began its offensive in Ukraine overnight, World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (Wan-Ifra) and the World Editors Forum (WEF) calls for journalists covering the unfolding conflict to be afforded the maximum protections.

As signatories to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), both Russia and Ukraine have binding commitments under international human rights law to respect the right to freedom of expression.
