56 couples say ‘I do' on auspicious 22222 date at mass wedding event in Ipoh


IPOH: A total of 56 couples took part in a mass wedding ceremony at the Ipoh Chinese Chin Woo Athletic Association Hall here on Tuesday (Feb 22).

Association president Datuk Ooi Foh Sing said many couples choose to get married on this day as the number brings good meaning.

“Today is Tuesday, which is the second day of the week and the date is Feb 22, 2022. In the Lunar calendar, today is also 22. So there are nine numbers of two.

“Nine times two is 18, which translates to prosperous and good fortune. Therefore, I hope all the couples will have a good life and will love each other forever,” he said during in interview.

Ooi added that the mass wedding here is among the largest group weddings held at the hall.

“We were supposed to have 60 couples but four had to cancel theirs due to unforeseen circumstances.

“We have couples staying outside Perak and overseas returning home just to get married on this day.

“This is one of the largest events we have conducted since the Covid-19 pandemic started.

“I’m very happy to see many people getting married today,” said Ooi.

Tang Shi Ni, 32, a restaurant manager who got married to her boyfriend Loh Yoke Jun, 31, planned their wedding three months ago.

“We first met at a bar and sat at different tables. He approached me and the rest was what they say was history

“We chose this date as it symbolises good fortune,” she said.
