GEORGE TOWN: Couples were seen waiting as early as 9am on Tuesday (Feb 22) to register their marriage on a special palindrome date.
The palindrome date, when written out, is “22/2/22”, a sequence of numbers that reads the same forwards and backwards.
The last palindrome date was 11 years ago on 11/1/11.
Considered to be artful, the day will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance for doing something special and auspicious, such as getting married.
Couple Ooi Weng Kean, 36, and Hng Lee May, 29, were seen at the Penang Chinese Town Hall in Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling at 9am, where 53 couples have applied to have their marriage solemnised on this day.
"We are happy to be marrying on such a special date. It sounds beautiful to say we wed on 22/2/22. We are not usually the type to observe special dates but we wanted our registration to be special," said Hng, who works as a clerk.
Ooi and Hng met four years ago when Hng went to Ooi's car accessories shop to repair her car.
"It was love at first sight for us and it is nice that years later we are here," said Hng.
More than 100 couples in Penang will wed on this special date.
With this date falling on a Tuesday this time, some have started calling it “Twosday”.
