GEORGE TOWN: More than 100 couples have chosen Feb 22, 2022 to tie the knot in Penang alone.

The sequence of tomorrow's date - 22/2/22- is a palindrome, which reads the same backwards as forwards.

Due to it falling on a Tuesday, some folks have started calling it “Twosday”

The last palindrome date 11/1/11, was 11 years ago.

Some 40 couples have scheduled to get registered at the National Registration Department (NRD) offices in Penang.

Its state headquarters in Jalan Anson will see 29 couples registering while the Balik Pulau office will see three couples doing so.

On the mainland, eight couples will be registering at NRD offices - Jawi (five) and Butterworth (three) - but none at the office in Bukit Mertajam.

At the Penang Chinese Town Hall in Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, 53 couples have applied to have their marriage solemnised on this day.

In comparison, 23 couples registered on Valentine's Day earlier this month. In Butterworth, the Che Wee Khor Moral Uplifting Society will see 40 couples taking their marriage vows on Tuesday.

A check with marriage registrars showed that other popular wedding dates in February included Feb 2 (the second day of Chinese New Year) and Feb 20 (a Sunday).
