KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s new daily Covid-19 numbers hit another all time high at 5,565 cases, with the city recording one fifth of the total number at 1,395 cases on Friday (Feb 18).
Two education related clusters - Kluster Kg Lampada in Kota Marudu district (225 cumulative cases) and Kluster Bukit Langsat in Keningau (25) - were also detected.
Minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in Sabah, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said sporadic cases with over 62% or 3,474 cases continue to make up the most transmission.
He said statewide, Kota Kinabalu was still the district with the highest Covid-19 number at 1,395 cases, followed by Penampang at 606 cases, Tawau at 430 cases and Lahad Datu (398).
Papar recorded 337 new cases while Tuaran has 320, Sandakan (289), Kota Belud (216), Keningau (215), Putatan (188), Kota Marudu (164), Beaufort (158) and Ranau 104 cases.
"With such high numbers of new cases which are sporadically transmitted, this further proves that the virus is already within our community," Masidi said.
For the new clusters, Kg Lampada involves a 36-year-old hostel warden of SK Lampada who tested positive through a screening on Feb 15.
For the Bukit Langsat cluster, the case index is a 21-year-old female student at Institut Pengajian Guru in Keningau.
She was tested positive on Feb 10, said Masidi.
He said all those tested positive in these two clusters had been isolated and given the necessary medical attention.
Close contacts who did not suffer any symptoms have also been instructed to undergo self quarantine, he said.
Masidi said over 99% of Friday’s new cases involved category 1 and 2 symptoms while six are under category 3, 12 in category 4 and five in category 5.
