Covid-19: 13% of Sabah's new cases involve kids below age 11

KOTA KINABALU: Unvaccinated children below age 11 make up over 13% of Sabah’s new Covid-19 cases, says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

The minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in the state said of the 3,891 new cases recorded on Sunday (Feb 13), 189 were children below age five while 329 were aged five to 11.

“These children have not been vaccinated against Covid-19. We encourage parents to bring their young children to get inoculated,” he said in his daily statement.

Masidi said immunisation would help reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission and prevent children who are not yet eligible to get their jabs from contracting the virus.

He said of the state's districts, Kota Kinabalu recorded the most new cases with 914, followed by Sandakan (478), Tuaran (414), Penampang (389), Papar (256), Tawau (245), Lahad Datu (184), Beaufort (133), Ranau (119) and Kota Belud (100).

He said sporadic cases accounted for the highest number of infections while over 99% (3,881) of the new cases were in Category 1 and 2.
