US embassy in Malaysia extends CNY greetings with auspicious fruits


KUALA LUMPUR: The US embassy in Malaysia extended its Chinese New Year greetings to the people of Malaysia, with its staff exchanging among themselves the respective countries' auspicious fruits.

Holding a tray of apples himself, which symbolises good health and happiness, US ambassador to Malaysia, Brian McFeeters wished the people of Malaysia a safe and healthy Year of the Tiger.

The staff holding pineapples, oranges, dragon fruits, pomelos and apples which symbolise good fortune, longevity and prosperity also extended CNY greetings in Mandarin, English and Bahasa Melayu.

This year, the US embassy in KL is enjoying US and Malaysian "auspicious fruits" during CNY as an auspicious treat symbolising good fortune, longevity and prosperity.

"Wishing you a sweet reunion with your family members. Thanks Washington apples and Sunkist (oranges) for your support," said the embassy in its CNY greetings video posted on Youtube.

The members of the Tiong Hua community will celebrate CNY on Tuesday which represents the beginning of a New Year in the Lunar calendar.- Bernama
