Johor polls: Umno Youth hopes to contest at least 20% of seats allocated to party, says state chief

JOHOR BARU: Johor Umno Youth is hoping to contest in at least 20% of the seats allocated for the party in the upcoming state election, says its chief Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.

Hairi said the request had been forwarded to the party's central and state leadership, as well as Umno Youth's national chief.

"Johor Umno Youth hopes that 50% of the seats could be given to young candidates in this election.

"However, we understand and accept that there are also other Umno wings such as Puteri Umno and Wanita Umno who also want to take part in the election.

"As such, we hope to be allocated between 20% and 30% of the available seats to contest in the election," he said.

He added that there are about 12 seats that have been identified to be suitable for youth candidates from the Umno wing.

He said this when met after attending a meeting with the Malaysia Makkal Sakti party here on Sunday (Jan 30).

Hairi also confirmed that he has offered himself as a candidate in the upcoming state polls.

"I have identified two or three seats that are suitable for me to contest but I cannot reveal the seats yet," he said.
