GEORGE TOWN: Young professionals will make up 50% of Warisan’s candidates, said Penang Parti Warisan coordinator Jeff Ooi.

He said the implementation of Undi18 and automatic voter registration has changed the political landscape in the country and Parti Warisan would field professionals and corporate heads.

Ooi also said Parti Warisan was confident of making inroads in Penang by targeting young voters using big data and with several leaders set to join the party.

“We will do it alone or have a pact with other parties by fielding candidates in all the parliamentary and state seats in Penang,” he said during a press conference at a hotel here with former Batu Lanchang assemblyman Danny Law, who joined Parti Warisan recently.

Ooi said the party was willing to work with anyone who is like-minded and shares Parti Warisan’s ideology, especially youths.

“No seats, be it parliament or state, will be forsaken and we will contest all of them as the ultimate aim is to ensure a Parti Warisan leadership in Putrajaya which reflects a true multiracial agenda,” he said.

Ooi added that he and Law joined Parti Warisan after watching Pakatan Harapan’s 22 months in government crumble in a power struggle that saw three different governments in Putrajaya.

“The people are disillusioned and there is resentment among the voters as the political instability has cost the country economically.

“Both of us thought it was best to change the landscape with another party as we were not given a chance to contribute and Parti Warisan fitted in with our multiracial and inclusive party ideology.”

Ooi added that Pakatan no longer held those values and there were no unified voice to move forward.

“We will be using research-based data to approach voters in the next general election.”

Also in the press conference was former chief of staff at Penang DAP headquarters Martin Lim, who has also joined Parti Warisan.
