Johor polls: EC to decide key dates on Feb 9


PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission will have a special meeting on Feb 9 to discuss the date of the Johor state election.

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said the special meeting will be led by EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh.

"The EC chairman will discuss crucial dates regarding the Johor state election, such as the election writ, nomination day, polling day and the electoral roll that will be used, as well as other preparations for the state election.

"A press conference will be held after the special meeting," said Ikmalruddin in a press statement on Monday (Jan 24).

The Johor state assembly was dissolved last Saturday (Jan 22).

Prior to the dissolution of the state assembly on Saturday (Jan 22) evening, the state government led has a simple majority of 28 (Barisan 16, Bersatu 11, PAS' one) compared to Pakatan's 27 following the death of Bersatu Kempas assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian last month.
